Indexed Universal Life Insurance in Florida
Indexed universal life insurance, often called IUL, does two jobs at once. It provides a death benefit that protects your family for life, and it builds cash value that grows based on the performance of a market index, with protection against market losses. For Florida families and business owners who want coverage that lasts and a cash reserve that can grow, it is worth a serious look.
An IUL is life insurance first. The cash value is a feature of the policy, not a separate investment account. Understanding that distinction is the difference between using the product well and being disappointed by it.
What an IUL offers
- Lifelong coverage. Designed to stay in force for life as long as the policy is funded properly.
- Indexed growth with a floor. Cash value is credited based on index performance, with a guaranteed floor that protects against down years. Growth is typically subject to caps.
- Tax advantages. Cash value grows tax-deferred, and loans against the policy are generally tax-free when structured properly.
- Flexible premiums. Within limits, you can adjust what you pay as life changes.
How we work
IUL illustrations can be confusing, so we slow down and explain what the numbers assume. We show you the guaranteed values, not just the rosy projections, and we talk honestly about funding, because an underfunded IUL is where most disappointments come from. We currently serve Florida only.
Common questions
Is an IUL an investment?
No. It is life insurance with a cash value feature. The cash value is not invested directly in the market. It earns interest credits based on index movement, with floors and caps set by the contract.
Can I lose money in an IUL?
The indexed crediting has a floor, typically 0 percent, so a down market year credits nothing rather than taking money away. But policy charges still apply, and poor funding can still cause a policy to lapse. The product has protections, not guarantees of growth.
How do the tax benefits work?
Cash value grows tax-deferred inside the policy. You can generally access cash value through loans that are not taxed as income, as long as the policy stays in force. If the policy lapses with loans outstanding, tax consequences can follow.
Who is IUL right for?
People who need permanent coverage and can commit to funding the policy consistently over many years. It rewards patience and discipline. If you need maximum death benefit for minimum premium, term life usually wins.
